Refugee Legal’s Annual Dinner
Wednesday, September 18 2019With our Annual Dinner just under three weeks away on Friday 25 October 2019, we are delighted to announce that Behrouz Boochani will deliver a special address live from PNG via Skype, on the offshore detention policy and the situation for those being helped.
Behrouz Boochani is an Iranian-Kurdish journalist, award-winning author, human rights defender, poet, film producer – and refugee. He was born in western Iran. He was held in the Australian-run Manus Island detention centre from 2013 until its closure in 2017, and has remained in PNG since. Read more about Behrouz Boochani.
We are also honoured that our keynote speaker this year is Louise Aubin, the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Canberra. Since joining UNHCR, Louise has served in a number of refugee and internal displacement operations including Central African Republic, Rwanda, Guinea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Bangladesh, in addition to legal and advocacy work in Canada and in France.
Our annual dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the year’s outstanding achievements and to focus on future challenges. It’s also a key fundraiser to support our vital work defending the rights and dignity of asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants.
