Mina, Ali, Raza and Zanab – finally reunited with their parents

Day in and day out, we fearlessly defend the rights and lives of thousands of people who seek our help while advocating for major reform – and justice.

Your donation will go to help people like 16-year-old Mina, her 14-year-old brother Ali, her 10-year-old brother Raza and her 9-year-old sister Zanab – all from Afghanistan.

In 2021, when the Taliban took control – with their lives on the line – Mina, Ali, Raza and Zanab were evacuated from Afghanistan to safety in Australia. However, with great distress and fear, they were separated from their parents who had no option but to remain behind. Some time after, their parents fled to Pakistan – finally escaping the brutality in Afghanistan.

On arriving in Australia, Mina, with her brothers and sister, contacted us. With our help, Mina, Ali, Raza and Zanab were granted permanent residence. They were relieved that they could remain safely in Australia but were very distressed about being separated from their parents – not knowing if they would ever see each other again.

Once their permanent visas were granted, we immediately began providing legal help to bring their parents to Australia. After client interviews and our multiple legal submissions and advocacy, the parents were granted visas to be with their children. On hearing this news, Mina, Ali, Raza and Zanab cried with happiness, knowing that they would finally be reunited with their parents.

I am delighted to let you know that, after almost two years of separation, the family are now all together in Australia, rebuilding their lives in hope and safety.
