Dear Friend of Refugee Legal,

I wish I was writing in better times. But in truth, the situation for people seeking asylum has never been more dire.

We know what injustice looks like. And we know how to fight it.

Will you stand with Refugee Legal to combat this situation?

There are thousands of people here and offshore – on Nauru and Manus – who desperately need our help – and hope. Right now.

At the same time, the Federal Government has completely stripped us of all funding.

On top of this, there have been years of systemic and wide-scale violations and abuse inflicted on people who are already in desperate circumstances – with no clear signs of abating.

We are as determined as ever to do something about it.

Amidst the terrible cycle of uncertainty which plagues the plight of people seeking asylum, one thing is certain: we will redouble our efforts to fight this injustice.

From our 30 years of defending the rights of refugees, we know that legal assistance is vital in fighting against harm and injustice.

From our 30 years, we know that their greatest need is to be granted protection – to secure safety and a chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.

From our 30 years, we know that our work so often changes the course of peoples’ lives immeasurably for the better.

We will continue to provide critical legal help.

We will continue to advocate for change.

We will continue in this work until every single woman and man on Nauru and Manus are evacuated from this cruelty to safety.
