A message from our Chair Clare Morton on International Women’s Day

Dear Friend,

On International Women’s Day we recognise the many refugee and migrant women who have experienced harm on account of their gender. These women have inspired uswith their courage and resilience in the face of gender-based persecution, trauma and separation from their loved ones and communities. We recognise their immeasurable contribution to the Australian community.

As a founding Executive Director of Refugee Legal 30 years ago – and now Chair of the Committee of Management – I also take this opportunity today to acknowledge the many women human rights defenders at Refugee Legal who are central in providing assistance to women in our work, and in our work for change. Day-in, day-out, our women lawyers, administrative and management staff, together with hundreds of volunteers, defend the rights and the dignity of thousands of people who seek our help each year.

Let’s continue to combine in supporting refugee and migrant women to change the course of their lives for the better.
